John "Jerry" Dortch Sr., 71

John "Jerry" Dortch Sr., 71, of Fremont, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Edgewood Vista in Fremont.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Book signing will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

John "Jerry" Dortch was born September 9, 1941, to Elwood and Betty (Simmonds) Dortch in Omaha.

He was raised in Arlington and attended Arlington Public Schools.

On January 24, 1960, he married Lila Stack in Fremont.

They raised their family in Arlington until moving to Fremont in 1992.

He worked for Hormel in Fremont and retired after 35 years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC in Fremont and a former member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Dortch enjoyed camping, duck hunting, and fishing. He was quite fond of taking care of his lawn and loved swimming in the pool in their backyard. He was an accomplished woodworker.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lila of Fremont; daughter, Denise Dortch of Fremont; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Michelle Dortch of Lake Winnebago, Mo., and Jim and Kelly Dortch of Oakland; sister, Linda Scheer of Fremont; nine granddaughters and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Jacob and Clinton Dortch.
