Claus Wrich Called by Death

About the 14th of January, our esteemed friend and neighbor, Claus Wrich, was taken with a severe cold that developed into pneumonia in its most severe form in spite of all that the best of medical skill and trained nursing could do, Claus departed this life at 5 o’clock, Friday morning, January 27, surrounded by all the dear ones.

The funeral was held at the home Sunday, at 12:30 noon, the Rev. Ahrd of the German Lutheran church officiating. The discourse was delivered in the German language and was full of comfort to the bereaved ones. Immediately thereafter the members of Kennard Camp 1347, Modern Woodmen of America, of which Claus was a member, took charge of the remains and conveyed them to rest in the Schlesvig Holstein Verine cemetery, near the German hall.

Claus Wrich was born in Holstein, Germany, April 6, 1859. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carsten Wrich, emigrated to this country in 1869. They came at once to this county where they have resided ever since. On the 14th day of February, 1879, Claus was joined in matrimony with Mary Kruse, who, together with four sons and three daughters, one child having gone on before, survive him.

The funeral cortege was one of the largest ever witnessed in the county and testifying to the general high esteem in which our friend and neighbor was held.

By honest endeavors, industry and frugality, Claus Wrich accumulated a large fortune, and yet he was ever ready to assist to the call for help when misfortune called at the door of his fellow man. He was a man among men, honored and respected by all, so with the dear ones, we all mourn the untimely death of our friend and neighbor.
