GILBERT W. SCHEER

ARLINGTON - - The funeral for Gilbert W. Scheer, 92, of Arlington will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington.

He died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

He was born March 10, 1910, in rural Arlington. He was a life resident of the Arlington area where he farmed. He married Margaret Schmidt on Feb. 19, 1937 in Arlington.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a church trustee and served on the repair committee of St. Paul’s church. He was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League and had served as treasurer, secretary and vice president. He also was a member of St. Paul’s School Board and was St. Paul’s Cemetery superintendent.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, Warren, (and wife, Mary) Scheer of Arlington; two daughters, Emily (Mrs. Eldon) Neujahr of Liberty and Virginia (Mrs. Rhea) Larsen of Omaha; a sister, Clara Westerman of Fremont; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and three sisters.

The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate Thursday’s service. Visitation will be 1 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington with family receiving friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Arlington. A memorial has been established to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Gilbert W. Scheer, 92, of Arlington, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 7, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, with the Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Interment was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Gilbert W. Scheer was born March 10, 1910, in rural Arlington to William and Caroline (Hilgenkamp) Scheer. He was a lifelong resident of the Arlington area, where he farmed.

On Feb. 19, 1937, he married Margaret Schmidt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Mr. Scheer was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, was a church trustee and served on the Repair Committee; was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League and had served as treasurer, secretary and vice president; was a member of St. Paul’s School Board; and was St. Paul’s Cemetery superintendent.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Mary Scheer of Arlington; daughters and sons-in-law, Emily and Eldon Neujahr of Liberty, and Virginia and Rhea Larsen of Omaha; sister, Clara Westerman of Fremont; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and three sisters, Hulda Scheer, Meta Gnuse, and Dorothea Hilgenkamp.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
