JOHN FREDERICK SCHEEER

John Frederick Scheer, the fourth son of the late Herman Scheer and his wife, Friederike nee Gnuse, was born on April 10, 1868, at Quincy, Illinois, where he was also baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Liese. In 1874 the family moved to Washington County, Nebraska, on a farm two and one-half miles southeast of Fontanelle. He attended the school of this congregation which was taught by Pastor J. Hilgendorf, until he renewed his baptismal vow on Palm Sunday, 1882.

In the spring of 1895, the deceased settled on a farm two miles east and one mile north of Arlington and has lived there until the time of his death. He entered the holy estate of matrimony on February 27, 1895, with Miss Elsie Hilgenkamp, who passed away January 2, 1898. This union was blessed with one child. On February 14, 1900, he was joined in marriage with Miss Wilma Schormann. This union was blessed with six sons and four daughters.

The departed entered the heavenly rest on Monday, December 10, 1945, having attained the age of 77 years and 8 months. He leaves to mourn his departure his widow and the following sons and daughters, namely: Alfred, Waldermar, Oscar, Gerhard, Otis and Obert, and Mrs. Leonard Echtenkamp, Mrs. Lawrence Walkenhorst, Mrs. Ervin Geisler, Mrs. Arthur Krohn and Mrs. Walter Krohn, as well as five sons-in-law and five daughters-in-law; twenty-three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, one sister, five brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Henry Scheer,Jr., Elmer Scheer, Leonard Sperling, Leonard Scheer, Erwin Scheer and August Jacob.

Funeral services for John Frederick Scheer, who passed away on Monday morning suddenly following a stroke, were held on Thursday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, with the Rev. Mr. Carl Hellmann officiating.

John F. Scheer, the fourth son of the late Herman C. and his wife, Frederikke, nee Kruse, was born on April 10, 1868 at Quincy, Illinois, where he was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Liese. In 1874 the family moved to Washington County, Nebraska on a farm two and one half miles southeast of Fontanelle. He attended the school of this congregation which was taught by Pastor J. He was married to Miss Elsie Hilgenkamp on February 27, 1898, and to this union one child was born. His wife died on January 2, 1899. On February 14, 1900 he married Miss Wilma Schulman, and this union was blessed with six ons and four daughters.

Besides his wife, these six sons and five daughters survive. They are Alfred, Waldemar, Oscar, Gerhard, Otis and Robert, all of this vicinity; Mrs. Leonard Echtenkamp of Fremont, Mrs. Lawrence Walkenhorst of this place, Mrs. Erwin Giessler, Mrs. Arthur Krohn, Mrs. Walter Krohn, all of Hooper. Also surviving is one brother, William Scheer of Arlington and one sister, Mrs. Amanda Giesling of Fremont; twenty three grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as a number of other relatives.

The pallbearers were Henry Scheer, Jr., Elmer Scheer, Leonard Sperling, Leonard Scheer, Ervin Scheer and August Jacob.

Burial was made in St. Paul’s cemetery.
