Eleanor Lutz O’Hanlon Noble, 93

Eleanor Lutz O’Hanlon Noble, 93, of Blair, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Crowell Home in Blair.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 30, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Blair.

Eleanor "Ellie" Lutz was born June 17, 1919, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the only child of John and Maude Stupfell Lutz.

She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1937.

She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1941 with a bachelor of science degree in education. While there, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Her pledge sisters became lifelong friends, keeping in touch via a round-robin letter and meeting in Lincoln every five years for a reunion. In 2008, they celebrated 70 years as Kappas.

On October 18, 1941, she married Clark O’Hanlon of Blair.

After World War II, they settled in Blair, where they raised their family and Mr. O'Hanlon practiced law until his death in May 1979. They had two sons, John Reed in 1946, and David Clark in 1948.

While in Blair, she was active in the community, serving as chairman of the Red Cross Blood Bank, PTA, Hospital Auxiliary and the Blair Library Board. She served as National Committeewoman of the Nebraska Young Republicans. She was a member of PEO Chapter EQ in Blair, which honored her as a 50-year member in 1991.

She also enjoyed substitute teaching at Blair High School for many years.

On June 3, 1989, she married David Noble, a lifelong friend and former fraternity brother of Mr. O’Hanlon's. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa.

After Mr. Noble’s death in 2001, she returned to Blair to be closer to family and friends.

She was a social butterfly who loved spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader and swimmer, and a huge fan of Husker football.

She spent many summers at Lake Okoboji in Iowa and many winters in Palm Springs, Calif.

In her later years, she loved spending time with her great-grandchildren, and was particularly thrilled to share her birthday with great-granddaughter Maggie.

She is survived by her son, David of Blair; daughter-in-law, Paula of Blair; grandchildren, Megan O’Hanlon Coffey and husband Sean Coffey of Omaha and Reed O’Hanlon of Blair; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Colleen, and John Coffey of Omaha; stepson Dr. David Noble and wife Eloise of Sioux City, Iowa; stepdaughter, Judith Colbert and husband Robert of Athens, Ga.; and step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark; husband, David; and son, John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Blair Public Library or to First United Methodist Church in Blair.
