RAYMOND “BUTCH” SCHEER, 77

Services for Raymond W. “Butch” Scheer, 77 of Arlington who died at Arbor Manor in Fremont April 4, 1993 will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Arlington. Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Raymond W. Scheer was born November 14, 1915 at Arlington. He lived his entire life in the Arlington area.

He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran.

He was the owner of the Arlington Transfer and retired from trucking in 1976. He owned and operated Ray Scheer Supply and sold shooting supplies and components.

He was a former mayor of Arlington and was a lifetime member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department where he built the first tank wagon for hauling water.

He was a trap shooter and the first winner of the Middaugh Handicap at Fremont in 1948. He won the Class A championship at the Grand American in Vandalia, Ohio in 1949 and in 1950 was the Nebraska State Singles Champion. He was also on the All American Trap Team in 1952 and served as A.T.A. delegate for 11 years, serving on the state classification and handicap committee.

He was district chairman of Ducks Unlimited and held offices of president and vice president of the Nebraska State Sportsman’s Association as well as serving on the board of directors for 11 years.

He shot in the same squad with cowboy movie star, Roy Rogers. February 1, 1975, he shot his 100,000 registered 16 yard target at Tucson, Arizona. This year he would have attained his 200,000 target.

He was named to the Nebraska All State Veteran Trap Team in 1982, 1983 and 1984. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame Nebraska Trapshooting June 8, 1984.

He received his 30 year pin from the Tucson, Arizona Gun Club in January, 1993. He had been the official trap mechanic for many gun clubs around Nebraska and the surrounding states. He was also a lifetime member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association.

He married Irene M. Peterson September 4, 1935 at Arlington. She preceded him in death June 10, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Dora Hilgenkamp Scheer; a daughter, Janet Scheer and a grandson, Raymond Fisher.

He is survived by two daughters, Lila Fisher of Blair and Carol (Mrs. Hansel) Vogt of Blair; a brother, Ronald Scheer of Fremont; a sister, Mildred (Mrs. Edgar) Juedes of Fremont; and three grandchildren, David Vogt, Lisa White and Ryan Fisher.

Memorials may go to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.

ARLINGTON - - Butch Scheer, 77 of Arlington, died Sunday, April 4, 1993 at Arbor Manor in Fremont. Scheer was born Nov. 14, 1915 in Arlington. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in rural Arlington and was a lifetime resident of the area. He was owner of Arlington Transfer and retired from trucking in 1976. He owned and operated Ray Scheer Supply and sold shooting supplies. He was a former mayor of Arlington.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Arlington. He was a lifetime member of Arlington Volunteer Fire Department and built its first tank wagon for hauling water. He was a life member of Amateur Trapshooting Association, won the Middaugh Handicap in Fremont in 1948, the Class A championship at the Grand American Trapshoot in Vandalia, Ohio, in 1949, and was Nebraska State Singles Champion in 1950. Scheer married Irene Peterson Sept. 4, 1935 in Arlington. She died June 10, 1990.

Survivors include two daughters, Lila Fisher and Carol Vogt, both of Blair; a brother, Ronald Scheer of Fremont; a sister, Mildred Juedes of Fremont; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a grandson.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Arlington. The Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate. Visitation will be 5 – 8 today, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 – 11 a.m. Wednesday, all at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home, and an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to the church.
