RICHARD D. SCHEER, 69

Richard D. Scheer, 69, of Arlington died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Services were Wednesday, Sept. 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. The Rev. Dr. Michael L. Rogers officiated.

Military graveside services were conducted by VFW Post 8332 of Arlington and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Martin T. Koglin, Gilbert and Albert Hokamp, Verdell Stork, Don Sperling, Darrell Laaker, Allen Greunke and Rupert Hilgenkamp.

Richard D. Scheer was born Jan. 20, 1929, at Nickerson to Leonard and Emma Scheer.

He grew up at Arlington and was a 1947 graduate of Arlington High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Japan. He was a corporal and received the Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal.

He lived and farmed north of Arlington. He moved into Arlington in 1992.

On Sept. 12, 1992, he married Lila Stork at Arlington.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Laymens League, Arlington Lions Club and VFW Post 8332 of Arlington.

He is survived by his wife, Lila; his mother, Emma Scheer of Fremont; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Lola Scheer of Arlington; three stepsons and two daughters-in-law, Tim Stork of Arlington and James and Nancy Stork of Ridgway, Penn.; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Pam and John Metzler and Kim and Darian Dickmeyer, all of Arlington and nine stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Endowment Fund or The Lutheran Hour.

Reckmeyer-Moser Memorial Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.

ARLINGTON - - The funeral for Richard Scheer, 69, of Arlington will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington.

He died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Scheer was born Jan. 20, 1929, at Nickerson. He grew up in Arlington and was a 1947 graduate of Arlington High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from Sept. 14, 1951 to Aug. 25, 1953, and was stationed in Japan. He was a Corporal and received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He lived and farmed north of Arlington. He moved to Arlington in 1992. He married Lila (Giesselman) Stork Sept. 12, 1992, at Arlington.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Laymens League; Arlington Lions Club; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8332 of Arlington.

Survivors include: his wife; his mother, Emma Scheer of Fremont; a brother, Melvin (and wife, Lola) Scheer of Arlington; three stepsons, Dan (and wife, Sheryl) Stork of York, Tim Stork of Arlington, and James (and wife, Nancy) of Ridgway; two stepdaughters, Pam (Mrs. John) Metzler and Kim (Mrs. Darian) Dickmeyer, all of Arlington; and nine stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The Rev. Michael L. Rogers will officiate Wednesday’s service. Visitation will be 1-9 tonight at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to service at the church. A military graveside service will be conducted by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8332 of Arlington and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to St. Paul’s Endowment Fund or The Lutheran Hour.
