FORMER BUSINESS MAN AND BLAIR MAYOR DIED LAST WEDNESDAY

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Orval Scheffler, long-time Blair business man and former Blair mayor. The well-known Blairite had died suddenly last Wednesday afternoon. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Prior to that he had been active in the Blair Fire Department and had been President of the Department.

As a younger man he had been very active in athletics and for a time sponsored many athletic activities in the community. He was an All-Star First Baseman and at one time had been a semi-pro pitcher.

He is survived by his wife, Alice and by one son, James Scheffler, of Blair. Three sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Alfred O. Sick (Gussie) and Mrs. Wilbur Lowe (Helen) both of Blair and Mrs. Burt Williams (Inez) of Rockford, Ill. There is also one grandson.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Robert D. Bee conducting the service. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary.

Pallbearers were E.A. Schmidt, Bert Hansen, Richard Zimmerman, Jr., Don Schettler, Jens Jensen and Wayne Anderson.
