CHILD FATALLY BURNED

A horrible accident occurred last Thursday when Rosie Scherner, little daughter of John Scherner, who lives on the old Stricklett farm two miles south of town, was fatally burned.

The accident occurred early in the morning and was first made known to the family when the little child tried to open the door leading from upstairs and they found her in flames, only the lace at the neck of her night gown being left. It is believed she had gotten out of bed and found a match, with the above results.

She lived perhaps twelve hours after the accident, passing away on Thursday, May 21, at the age of two years ten months and ten days.

A pathetic incident in connection with the little girl was that her mother was struck and killed by lightning two years ago when Rosie was a small infant. This occurred while the family were living at Craig, Nebr.

Besides the father, there are left four children, three of whom are at home, one being married, Mrs. Florence Speck, who lives at Craig.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 23, at Craig, Nebr.

#2 May 27, 1925 - The Pilot

Rosie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Scherner, was burned to death last Thursday morning while alone in an upstairs bedroom. Her little body was quite badly burned, but the rug was only slightly scorched. The body was taken to Craig for the funeral services on Saturday. The Scherners moved down here from Craig only last March and were living on a farm about two miles south of town. Rosie was almost three years of age.
