Durward L. “Bud” Sidebottom Jr., 78, of Blair, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will be Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Durward L. “Bud” Sidebottom Jr. was born January 11, 1935, in Nashville to Durward L. and Edith (Dunning) Sidebottom.

He was raised in the rural Blair area and began farming with his father at a very young age. He attended country school through the 10th grade and graduated from Blair High School in 1953.

On February 6, 1955, he married Margaret Hansen of Blair at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

The couple made their home south of Blair where Mr. Sidebottom continued farming with his father.

In 1990, they moved to the north of Blair. Then he became semi-retired and moved into Blair.

He served for several years as the custodian at First Lutheran Church and spent countless hours volunteering at the Washington County Recycling Center.

He was known to have never met a stranger and always seemed to make new friends wherever he went.

He was a member of the Blair Optimist Club, the First Lutheran Church where he also served as a board member, the Nebraska Young Farmers Association and the Wranch country school board.

He also received numerous Fontanelle Hybrids sales and service awards.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Blair; daughters and son-in-law, Marcia Sidebottom Law of Blair and Sharon and Steven Ray of Blair; grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Juli Ray of Blair, Derik Ray of Omaha and Karly and John Weinberg of Omaha; great-grandchildren.

Halli and Corwyn Ray of Blair; sisters and brother-in-law, Edith Satterfield of Blair and Mary Ann and Dennis Laaker of Bennington; brothers-in-law, Paul Saathoff of Omaha, Carl “Marv” Hansen of Stromsburg, Merle and wife Lori Hansen of Blair; sister-in-law, Norma and husband Ed Lippincott of Bennington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; sisters, Donna Mae and Ethel; brother-in-law Ray; and son-in-law, Mitch.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or Open Door Mission.
