Andrew M. Schiermann, 13, of Blair, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 5, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Andrew Mathias Schiermann was born July 8, 1996, to Christopher and Barbara Schiermann.

He was a talented boy and will be missed by many people from around the country. His enthusiasm, maturity, desire to succeed, sense of humor, and style was a tremendous influence and inspiration to adults and children who knew him.

Andrew studied karate, took dance as a small child, and loved to act and sing in school programs. He played golf and loved to play team sports as well. He was active in baseball, basketball and football.

He was a three-time NFAA Unmarked 3D National Champion Bow Hunter; won the South Dakota Whitetail 3D Classic twice; took 5th place at the NFAA World Archery Competition in Las Vegas, Nev.; shot in two events at the National State Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he placed 1st in the 3D event and 1st in the Field event. He shot the tournament high score dominating every age group and equipment category. He won multiple medals at the Cornhusker State Games each summer in Lincoln. He also competed in the International Bow Hunter Organization events, qualifying for World each year. He competed at the IBO World Archery event on Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia.

He was a gifted musician who loved to play guitar, bass, piano, tenor and bari-saxophone. For three years, he attended the UNL Summer Music Band Camp. He took private saxophone lessons and was a member of the Otte Blair Middle School Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Show Choir.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Zachary; nanny, Joan Scanlon, all of Blair; grandparents, Tom Scanlon of Bellevue and Ralph and Schatzi Schiermann, Fremont; great-grandmother, Grace Williams, Dover, England; uncles and aunts, Tony and Jennie Scanlon, Bellevue, Mike and Mary Schiermann, Birmingham, Ala., Mark and Celeste Schiermann and Matt Schiermann, all of Fremont, Marty Schiermann, Omaha; seven first-cousins; many extended family members.

The Rosenback Warrior Training Branch, where Andrew studied karate, has renamed their tuition scholarship to honor him and will now be called the RWTB Andrew Schiermann Memorial Scholarship. Another scholarship is being established through Washington County Bank in memory of this enthusiastic teenager. Details of the Andrew Mathias Schiermann Memorial Scholarship will be available at the Blair Public Schools Administration building. Please contact the bank if you would like to make a donation.

SERVICES 10 am Monday, October 5th at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial Blair Cemetery.

VISITATION begins 12 pm Sunday with the family receiving friends from 5-8 pm.
