CAR ROLLS FROM BLOCKS, CRUSHES MAN

ELHARDT SCHLOTE DIED SUNDAY IN ACCIDENT AT HIS FARM HOME

Elhardt Schlote, 60-year-old Washington County farmer, was killed Sunday when a car upon which he was making some repairs rolled off some blocks and crushed him. He was found by his wife after he had been missing from the house for a period of time.

Sheriff John Sutherland, who was called to the scene, told The Enterprise that Schlote was repairing the transmission of a Chrysler automobile and he was under the vehicle at the time of the accident. He had raised the car up on some cement blocks, all four wheels being blocked up. In some manner, the car was jarred so that it rolled off the blocks and crushed Schlote who was working beneath.

The Schlotes live on a farm place just west of the Lincoln School on the old road to Orum. The farm is about six miles west of Blair.

Elhardt Herman Schlote was born April 13, 1905 at Dodge, Nebraska and was 60 years of age at the time of his death. He had devoted his life to farming.

The Schlotes moved to the place about six months ago, coming here from Dodge. Prior to that they had lived in the Blair area for various periods of time.

Mr. Schlote is survived by his wife, Myrtle, and by four daughters and a son.

The daughters are Mrs. John Wolsmann (Betty) of Blair; Mrs. Norman Buckhardt (Eleanor) of Blair; Mrs. Phil AuBuchon (Vonna Jean) of Milwaukee; and Mrs. Norman Van Beek (Karoline) of Blair. The son is Dale Schlote, of Milwaukee. There are 14 grandchildren.

Two brothers, Albert of Omaha and Wilmer of Columbus, Ohio, also survive. A sister, Mrs. Alma Wiese, lives at Scribner.

Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at the Kennard Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harold Laursen conducting the services. Burial under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home, is being made in the Kennard Cemetery. Pallbearers are Vernette Johnson, James Christensen, Clarence Matzen, Henry Gehrk, George Schmidt and Richard Sorensen.
