News was received yesterday of the death of Mrs. John Schmahling at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julius Soll at West Point. The funeral will be held in Blair on next Sunday.

Mrs. Schmahling’s Funeral Sunday

The body of Mrs. John Schmahling was brought down from West Point Saturday and the funeral held at the home of her brother, F. W. Arndt, at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. R. Jones officiating, at her personal request. She also selected the singers, Ethel Mead, Mary Cook, Dr. C. R. Mead and the editor, and the hymns, “Nearer My God to Three” and ‘Safe om the Arms of Jesus: which were the ones sang.

There was a wealth of floral offerings, among them a piece from Royal Neighbors, of which Mrs. Schmahling had been a very active member, one from the German, Verein, another from the Knights of Pythias, of this city and from the K. P’s at West Point also. A beautiful cross of roses waw emblematic of her Christian faith.

Wilhelmina Louisa Arndt was born September 5, 1864, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She came to Blair in 1871 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Arndt. She was married to John Schmahling May 17, 1884. Three children were born to this union, Sophie, who passed away in January 1891, aged 3 years, 3 months, Hilda, now Mr. C. P. Kildahl, of North Platte, Neb., and Edith, now Mrs. J. C. Soll, of West Point, Nebr. Besides these she leaves to mourn her early demise, her husband, two sisters, Mrs. M. C. Londelius, of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Fred Michael, of Tekamah, and one brother, F. W. Arndt, of Blair. Also, her aged father, B. Arndt. For the past four months she and her husband have been making their home with their daughter, Mrs. Soll. Everything possible was done to relieve her suffering but she passed peacefully away at 2:34 p.m. on May 29th, 1919 at the age of 54.
