# 1 - - Pilot, November 26 1924

Dietrich Schmidt died at his residence, corner Park and Centre streets, at about 6:30 Monday evening. He had been a sufferer from dropsy for some time and last Friday was compelled to take to his bed. That evening he had a paralytic stroke that completely paralyzed his left side. He failed rapidly, death resulting Monday evening. The funeral service will be held at the house and Trinity church this afternoon, Rev. Henry Werning officiating.

Mr. Schmidt was born in Holstein, Germany, July 20, 1846, so was past 78 years of age. He was married there to Miss Margaret Bornholt in 1867 and in 1884 they came to this country, settling on a farm in Washington county. They moved to Blair in 1901.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Henry, of Winslow, Neb., and Hans, of Ft. Calhoun, besides fourteen grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Schmidt was always a good father, husband and citizen and will be greatly missed by many friends.

DIETRICH SCHMIDT

Dietrich Schmidt, aged seventy-eight years, died at his home in this city at about 6:30 Monday evening. He had been in poor health for some time and on last Friday was compelled to take to his bed which was followed by a stroke of paralysis and he gradually slipped away.

Mr. Schmidt was a man of high ideals and the strictest of morals. Always kind and considerate of others, he was held in the highest esteem and will be greatly missed by those who came in daily contact with him.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon of last week at the home and at the German church, Rev. Werning officiating and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Deceased was born in Germany and was married to Miss Margaret Bornholt in 1867 and later came to this country in 1884 and settled on a farm in this county where two sons, Henry now of Herman and Hans, now of Ft. Calhoun were born. Besides the two sons, the wife also survives him.
