FLOYD W. SCHMIDT, 83

Floyd W. Schmidt, 83, of Blair, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, in Blair.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Floyd W. Schmidt was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Fort Calhoun to William H. and Clara Schmidt. He attended Fort Calhoun School through his senior year.

Mr. Schmidt was baptized and confirmed at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, and, on Aug. 22, 1943, he married Gladys Lorraine Paulsen, also at the church.

He retired after 33 years of service from Vickers Inc. of Omaha, and for 35 years, he was an active member of the Fort Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department, and served as chief for several years. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; daughters and son-in-law, Elan Schneider of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mari and Raymond Willis of Savage, Minn.; son, Leon Schmidt of Omaha; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Schmidt of Holstein, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Allen Rasmussen of Ocala, Fla.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Volunteeer Fire & Rescue Department, or the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.
