Dareld R. Ahrens, 73 died Monday March 22, 2004, at his home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Derald R. Ahrens was born Nov. 15, 1930 in rural Blair to Fred and Belva (Barton) Ahrens.

On April 12, 1953, he married Elaine Quist at the First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Mr. Ahrens served with the Nebraska National Guard in the 128th Engineer Battalion in Fremont from November 1950 until September 1956.

He served on the Sutherland School Board for nine years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Herman Masonic Lodge and Mo-Ri Shriners. He served as a “roadrunner” for the Shriners, driving crippled children to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis.

His love of farming kept him on the family farm with his wife, Elaine, all of his life. He enjoyed traveling, camping and attending his grandchildrens’ sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Debbie Ahrens of Blair; daughter, Cheryl Nielsen, and finance, Tom Whittles of Arden Hills, Minn., as well as five grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Washburn of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a brother, Donald Ahrens of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
