Floyd J. Hilgenkamp was born April 26, 1922, to G.W. and Dora Hilgenkamp in Arlington.

He attended school until the eighth grade, when he began helping on the family farm after his father had become ill. Although he went to school through eighth grade, he was very interested in educating himself, especially about agriculture and farming.

The farm has been in the family since 1867, when the state of Nebraska was established. He had hogs, chickens, and an orchard, and had a dairy operation on the farm until 1975.

On September 28, 1947, he married Leona Wittmann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.

After they were married, in addition to working on the farm, he also sold for P A G Seeds for 40 years. He was a traditional farmer growing wheat, alfalfa, soybeans and corn, but he was also open to alternatives such as grapes and aronia berries.

Mr. Hilgenkamp loved to square dance, play dominos with his grandchildren, and loved being a farmer and working outside.

He was an elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served on the school board as well.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; sons and their wives, James and JoAnn Hilgenkamp of Omaha, Dale and Nancy Hilgenkamp of Arlington and Gene and Deb Hilgenkamp of Omaha; grandchildren Colton Hilgenkamp and special friend Lauren LeRouge of Fenton, Mo., Devin Hilgenkamp of Savannah, Ga., Amy and husband Jeff Hartman of Fremont, Laurie and husband Andrew Hock of North Platte, Emily and husband Greg Dickson of Overland Park, Kan., Lindsey and husband Dan Newton of Omaha, and Brent and wife Brooke Hilgenkamp of Omaha; five great-grandchildren: Evan, Chase, and Leah Hartman, Asher Hock and Oliver LeRouge; and brother, Vernon Hilgenkamp.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryce Hilgenkamp; and brother, Gilbert Hilgenkamp.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
