Vernon A. Hoxsie, 87

Vernon A. Hoxsie, 87, of Arbor Manor in Fremont, formerly of Kennard, died Monday, April 22, 2013.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mr. Hoxsie will be cremated and his ashes will be placed to rest in the Kennard Cemetery by his wife, Lorena.

Vernon A. Hoxsie was born January 6, 1926, in O’Neill to Clarence and Charlotte (Mitchell) Hoxsie.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

On November 16, 1944, he married Lorena Prawitz. The couple moved to Blair in 1957 and then to Kennard in 1970.

He worked for the Ralston Purina company for 32 and a half years before retiring. After he retired and Mrs. Hoxsie retired from Campbell's Soup, they spent several years making wooden crafts, which they sold at numerous craft shows.

He was a member of the Blair V.F.W. and the American Legion.

He will be greatly missed by his children, family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra “Sandie” Jack of Topeka, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law Terry W. and Priscilla Hoxsie of Dell Rapids, S.D.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena; son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Leroy “Butch” and Barbara Ann Hoxsie; and brothers, Neil, Raymond and Delbert Hoxsie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in care of Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.
