Blair Democrat, March 11, 1915

Peter Lueninghoner, one of the early settlers of Sheridan township of this county, answered the final summons on Friday morning, March 5th, at the age of 79 years, following a brief illness with a complication of asthma and pneumonia. He had just returned from a trip to Quincy, Ill., to attend the burial of a younger brother, who died in that city about three weeks ago, where he was taken down with the fatal malady.

Mr. Lueninghoner was born near Hereford, Germany, in 1836 and spent his boyhood days there. He emigrated to America while yet in his teens, stopping for a time in New Orleans, La., from where he moved to St. Louis, Mo., where he enlisted under the Northern banner when the Civil War broke out. Upon the close of the war he was married to Miss Anna Monke in St. Louis, to which union twelve children were born of which three sons and six daughters survive him. Three children, together with the faithful mother, have preceded him to the great beyond. The family moved to Nebraska, after a short residence at Quincy, Ill., in 1868, and have enjoyed an unusual amount of prosperity, which usually goes with systematic physical endurance during pioneer times. The surviving children are Henry Lueninghoner,Winslow; William Lueninghoner, Randolph, Nebr.; and Albert Lueninghoner, who resides on the home farm in Sheridan township; Miss Tillie Lueninghoner, Fremont; Mrs. August Schurman, Winslow: Mrs. Karl Toelke, Admah; Mrs. H.C. Ruwe, Herman; Mrs. Henry Schafersman, Admah; and Mrs. Amos Sohl, of Winslow.

The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Telbasta cemetery besides those of his wife who died about two and one half years ago, with the Rev. Wiegert, pastor of the Evangelical church of which deceased has been a devout member for many years, officiating amid the participation of a large number of relatives and friends.
