MRS. TYSON PASSES OVER

DEATH CAME SATURDAY FORENOON AFTER MANY DAYS OF SUFFERING WITH A MALIGNANT AFFLICTION

Mrs. Ella Tyson passed away at 11 o’clock last Saturday forenoon at her home on west Grant street after an illness with what was thought to be cancer of the liver, from which she suffered greatly up to within a few days of her passing, when she became unconscious from weakness and the opiates necessary to relieve her of intense pain.

The funeral service was held at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Rev. L.J. Moran officiating. The music was furnished by Miss Mary Cook and Gifford Dixon, singing two duets and a solo by Gifford. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, the family having come to this country in 1865.

Burial was in the Blair cemetery, the committal service being conducted by Serepta Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of Arlington, of which she was a member for many years.

Mary Ella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Beard, was born in Henry county, Iowa, August 5th, 1852, so was almost 76 years of age. The family came to Florence in 1862 and in 1865 they came to this county and settled on a homestead seven miles north of Blair, but Blair wasn’t in existence until 1869, so they were real pioneers.

On February 27th, 1872, Miss Ella was united in marriage to Peter Tyson, a brother of the late Watson Tyson and of the late Marshall Tyson. To this union one child was born, Amasa F. Tyson, of Los Angeles, Calif. Her husband died December 4th, 1901.

They lived in the Rose Hill neighborhood for some years, moving to Arlington in 1881. She came to Blair to make her home in 1914, purchasing what was formerly the Hahn residence of Mr. Weeden, which was her home ever since. She was a great lover of flowers and she had them in great profusion in her yard and of almost infinite variety. She not only loved a neat and orderly place but she loved to keep it that way herself.

While the past few months of her life were ones of great suffering, she bore it patiently and planned her own funeral to the minutest detail. She was tenderly cared for by those who loved her and the end made as comfortable as was possible.

Mrs. Tyson united with the church while she lived at Rose Hill and continued her devotions to her Bible and her faith through all the years. In her Bible were found lists of scripture references made recently and leaves were turned down to favorite passages, such as the 23rd Psalm, John 14 and 1 Corinthians 13, which were read at the funeral service.

Besides the son she is survived by two brothers, W.H. and George Beard, who live north of Blair; and two sisters, Mrs. Lou Hungate and Miss Cora Beard, both of this city. Also many other near relatives and friends.
