Betty Mackie

Betty Mackie, daughter of Homer H. and Neva B. (Watts) Mackie, was born September 30, 1923 on the family farm southwest of Primrose, Nebraska.

She grew up in the Primrose area where she attended school at Enfield School District No. 13.

In 1942 she moved to Herman. There she has lived and worked for Raymond and Goldie McVeigh as a housekeeper as well as working as a waitress in Bar 73, McVeigh’s steak house and bar in Herman.

In 1981 Miss Mackie joined St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah.

She died Saturday, December 21, 1985 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha at the age of 62 years.

She is survived by her Mother Neva of the Friendship Villa at Spalding, three brothers: Dennis Mackie and wife Patricia of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, Bill of Atascadero, California, and Daniel and wife, Jean of Albuquerque, New Mexico, also sisters: Mrs. Roger (Peggy) Burns of Racine, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ronald (Mildred) Bopp of Spalding, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her father, Homer.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska.

The Rev. John Starostka and Rev. John McCaslin of Tekamah officiated, and burial was in the Dublin Cemetery, Primrose.

Pallbearers were Mike McVeigh, Keith Hansen, Dan Erlewine, John Bopp, David Bopp and Dennis Bopp.
