Albert S. “Bud” Madsen, 85, of Blair, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 20, at First Lutheran Church. Military graveside services were held at the Blair Cemetery.

Albert Sidney Madsen was born June 9, 1922, in Blair to Albert and Anna (Andersen) Madsen. After completing his schooling, he was engaged in farming until Nov. 6, 1942, when he was inducted into the Army.

He served with the 22nd Tank Battalion of the 11th Armored Division as a tank driver. He saw combat in the Ardennes, Rhineland and central European campaigns. He was discharged on Jan. 9, 1946.

On Oct. 23, 1948, he married Alice Thompson at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

He was a baptized and confirmed member of First Lutheran Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 154 of Blair.

With the exception of his Army service and six years living in Redland, Calif., his life was spent in the Herman and Blair areas, where he was a machinist for Kelly Ryan for 42 years. He retired in January 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; children and spouses, Steven and Lucy Madsen of Omaha, Tia Weis of Spokane, Wash., Mark and Shona Madsen and Douglas and Susan Madsen, all of Blair; eight grandchildren n; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Esther Madsen and Lucille Wulf, both of Blair; and brother, Darrel Madsen of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Irma Bray.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
