Archie L. Madsen, 66

Archie L. Madsen, 66, died on Nov. 26, 1988, in Blair.

Archie was born on Aug. 6, 1922, in Hampton, Ne., to Hans and Lydia (Hendriksen) Madsen.

After graduating from Hampton High School in May of 193, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska Ag College. In 1942 he entered the Armed Forces during World War II. He entered Dana College in January of 1946.

Archie was united in marriage to Lorraine Sandberg on Aug. 17, 1947 and entered Trinity Seminary in Minneapolis, MN in September of 1948.

Archie Madsen served as pastor at First Lutheran Church in Fremont from 1951 to 1958, First Lutheran Church in Brookings, S.D., from 1958-1964 and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denver, CO from 1964-1969. He was then elected District President of the Central District of the American Lutheran Church and served in this capacity until Jan. 1, 1981.

During the eventful “Gathering” of former members of the UELC in June 1984, Archie and Lorraine moved to Blair.

Archie Madsen is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a son, Mark of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Marcia of Tacoma, Wa.; two grandchildren, Sean and Jessica.

He is also survived by two brothers, Harry of Hampton and Raymond of Gardena, Ca.; and two sisters, Hilda Madsen of Hampton and Norma Kamtz of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Earl; and two sisters, Agnes and Alice.

His joy in life was serving his Lord and he would say to you today:

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer with joy, thankful for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now”. (Philippians 1:3)

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Immanuel Cemetery in Hampton, Ne. on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Campbell Funeral Home.
