Charles Madsen, 81

Washington County native Charles “Chuck” Madsen, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services will be held in Atlanta.

Charles Madsen was born Aug. 8, 1921, to Harold and Selma Madsen in Washington, Neb.

He grew up in Blair and was noted for being a great drummer. He had played in many big-named bands in the Big Band era and the Madsen family always enjoyed him, his drums and his love for music when he entertained them at their family reunions.

He is survived by four children, Chuck Jr., Timothy, Roberta and Debra; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald Madsen of Stillwater, Minn., Murl Madsen of Mesa, Ariz., Burl Madsen and Bob Madsen, both of Blair; two sisters, Harriett Pitt of Blair and Lois Donaldson of Boulder City, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chic and Jack, and a sister, Betty.
