Lifetime Washington County resident Elmer Madsen passed away on Thursday, January 12, 1989 at the hospital. He was 84 years of age at the time of his death. He was born in Orum, Nebraska on June 11, 1904 to Mads and Johanna Jensen Madsen. He farmed in the Orum area all his life with his family before moving to Blair and most recently to Good Shepherd Home.

He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Orum, served in the Army in WWII, and was a member of the Blair American Legion.

Elmer is survived by 2 brothers, Harry and Nels Madsen of Blair, Nebraska and 1 sister Mrs. Esther Korshoj of Herman, Nebraska. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 6 brothers.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Norman Lillegard officiating and burial in the Orum Cemetery. Nephews Earl Korshoj, Frank Korshoj, Ray Korshoj, Albert Madsen Jr., Darrel Madsen and Ralph Madsen served as pallbearers.
