Lorraine Madsen, 76

Former Blair resident Lorraine Madsen, 76, of Loveland, Colo., died March 25, 2002, at her home at Good Samaritan Village.

Memorial services were Thursday, March 28, and Monday, April 1, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denver. Memorial services will also be held at First Lutheran Church in Blair at a later date.

Lorraine Elizabeth Madsen was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Underwood, Iowa, to Herman and Nina Sandberg.

She graduated from Underwood High School, attended Dana College in Blair from 1944 to 1946, and later graduated from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colo., in 1972.

She married Archie L. Madsen on Aug. 17, 1947, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a minister’s wife, mother, homemaker and elementary music teacher.

The couple lived in St. Paul, Minn., from 1947 to 1951; in Fremont from 1951 to 1958; Brookings, S.D., from 1958 to 1964; Denver, Colo., from 1964 to 1984; and in Blair from 1984 to May, 2001. Mrs. Madsen moved to Loveland, Colo., in September, 2001.

Mrs. Madsen was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Clifford and Florence Hanson Servanthood Award from Dana College. Known for her commitment to service, she was a staunch supporter and benefactor for Oaks Indian Center, Oaks, Okla., and Dana College, and volunteered for sing-alongs at Crowell Home and Good Shepherd Home in Blair.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denver. With a deep Christian faith, she wished to thank her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for freeing her and giving her forgiveness and a reason to live. Her favorite Scripture passage was, “I thank my God for every remembrance of you”. (Philippians 1:3).

She is survived by a son, Mark Madsen of Conifer, Colo., two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Mike Hewnsick, also of Conifer, and Marcia and Mike Miller of Puyallup, Wash., and three grandchildren, a brother, Maynard Sandberg of Canby, Ore., sister, Arlene Nelson of Red Feather, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Memorials are suggested to Oaks Indian Center or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Denver, Colo., and may be sent in care of Allnutt Funeral services, 2100 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, Colo., 90538.

Former Blair resident Lorraine Madsen of Loveland, Colo., died March 25, 2002, at he home at Good Samaritan Vilalge. Memorial services were held in March in Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, in Hampton.
