Lloyd E. 'Bear' Dickinson, 76

Lloyd E. “Bear” Dickinson, 76, of Mondamin, Iowa, died Monday, May 13, at Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa.

Memorial services were Friday, May 17, at Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, Iowa.

Lloyd E. "Bear" Dickinson was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Harrison County, Iowa, to Frank and Mary (Lamberson) Dickinson.

He graduated from Logan High School.

On April 10, 1956, he married Katherine Arbaugh at the Methodist Church in Logan, Iowa.

He worked for Purina Feed in Omaha. He moved to Beebeetown, Iowa, and worked for the Farm Service, then moved to Hard Scratch, Iowa, and farmed with his dad and brother for eight years. He moved to Logan, Iowa, in 1966 and worked for Clark Limestone, Benny Charbonneau as a truck driver, Gale Dickinson’s service station and Jim Panique Construction.

Mr. Dickinson was a farmer most of his life. In 1974, he went to work for the Harrison County Secondary Roads Department. He worked on the bridge crew and road maintenance, and was a “cat skinner” before retiring in 2000 after nearly 30 years of service.

He enjoyed bird watching, camping, fishing and taking trips in his motorhome.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine of Mondamin; daughters and their husbands, Mary Hember of Mondamin, Carol (Brian) Birdsall of Mondamin; Lori (Rick) Benton of Bellevue; and Beth (Stuart) Beck of Arlington; sons and daughter-in-law, Scott (Pam) Dickinson of Owatonna, Minn., and Lee Dickinson of Mondamin; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, brother, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, niece and nephew.
