K. Ann Johnson, 77

K. Ann Johnson, 77, of Oakland, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Oakland Heights, surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Craig Auditorium in Craig. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Craig Auditorium. Interment will be in the Craig Cemetery.

K. Ann Schmidt was born August 20, 1935, in Lincoln, to Jerry and Cleora (Dinehart) Schmidt.

She graduated from Craig High School in 1953. On October 18, 1953, she married Merle Johnson. They lived on a farm south of Craig for 27 years. To this union, four children were born.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Alder Grove United Methodist Church, where she was treasurer for many years. She later joined Craig United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Craig American Legion Auxiliary for 59 years.

She worked at the First National Bank in Tekamah as a bank teller until she was forced to retire at the age of 63 because of health reasons. She also worked for three years as a secretary at Countrywide Insurance in Omaha.

She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. She was an avid Husker fan as evident by her Nebraska wardrobe and never missing a chance to watch the Huskers on TV. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, being outside, sewing and collecting Precious Moments items. She also loved spending time with her family, which often ended with a sing-a-long with her sisters and aunts.

She is survived by two daughters, Debi Rowe of Oakland, Jeri Baker of Oakland and friend, Stan Kallhoff; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jody Johnson of Arlington and Scott Johnson of Marble Falls, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Lea Harney of Henderson, Nev.; sisters, Joyce Fratt of Oakland and Paula Kish of Pass Christian, Miss.; sister-in-law, Barb Harney of Craig; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; aunts, Norma Safranek of Omaha and Jackie Nelson of Fremont; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Merle Johnson; brother, “Bucky” Harney; son-in-law, Layne Baker; brother-in-law, Lyle Fratt; and grandson, Ross Baker.
