Kirk M. Magill, 19

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont for Army Spec. 4 Kirk M. Magill of Fremont who died in a helicopter crash in Panama February 23, 1990. Burial with full military honors will be held at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Kirk M. Magill was born May 20, 1970. He attended Howard and Clarkson Elementary Schools and Fremont High School. He graduated in 1988 from Loganview High School in Hooper.

He joined the Army July 22, 1988 and completed basic training and advanced infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

He was stationed at Fort Ord, California. He was sent to Panama in January after the United States invasion December 20. It was his second tour in Panama, having been there about a year ago for training.

Magill was a crew member on one of two military helicopters that crashed in dense jungle during poor weather February 21. An infantryman, Magill was the second known Nebraska to die in helicopter crashes. Army Spec. Joel Meints of Plymouth, Nebraska also died. Eleven servicemen were killed in crashes.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly Magill, Lincoln Magill; his mother, Nina Magill of Omaha; his father and step-mother, Richard and Sandra Magill of Hooper; a brother, Pvt. Jeffrey Magill, Marine Corps; a sister Renee Magill of Omaha; and his grandparents, Robert and Harriet Finlay of Valley and Harold and Dorothy Magill of Blair.

Memorials may be sent to the Boys Town National Research Hospital cleft palate program.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is handling the arrangements for the services.
