Mrs. Margareta Schmidt Passed Away Last Friday Near Calhoun

Mrs. Margareta Schmidt passed away last Friday, July 25th at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hans Schmidt of near Fort Calhoun. Had she lived until next September 5th, she would have been 96 years of age.

She was born in Bendorf, Germany where she was baptized and confirmed. She was married to Dietrich Schmidt. Two sons, Henry and Hans were born to them. Hans passed away in 1934.

Mrs. Schmidt and her husband emigrated to America in 1884 and took up farming near Blair and later moved to Blair. The husband passed away on November 22, 1924 and Mrs. Schmidt continued to live alone in her home until November 1st, 1936 when she went to the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hans Schmidt where she lived until her death, with all the care loving hands could give.

She had been in exceptionally good health up to the day preceding her death when she suffered a stroke from which she did not rally and which caused her death.

She was a woman of rare ability and those who knew her respected her highly. Funeral services are held Sunday afternoon from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair and interment was made in the Blair cemetery. Thus closes the last chapter of a life exemplary in all manner and an example well worthy of emulation.
