Former Fremont resident Leona B. Mahrt, 92, died May 29, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 2, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scribner. Interment was in the Scribner Cemetery.

Leona B. Mahrt was born March 11, 1912, near Bassett to John and Martha (Froemming) Mauch. As a small child, she moved with her parents to Scribner. She grew up there, and graduated from Scribner High School.

She was a waitress in several area restaurants in Scribner and Oakland. She later worked as a clerk in the Lee Drug Store in Omaha.

Following her marriage to Virgil McMahill, the couple lived in Omaha. After her husband’s death, she remarried. On July 3, 1971, she married Alfred Mahrt in Omaha. The couple initially made their home on his farm near Yutan, then moved to Fremont. After her second husband’s death, Mrs. Mahrt moved to Scribner, and most recently, lived at the Good Samaritan Center.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Scribner and was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Scribner.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marleen and Glenn Herbolsheimer of Scribner; seven grandchildren and their families; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Mildred Ruwe of Hooper; brother, Walter Mauch of Dallas, Texas; four step-daughters and their husbands, Lorna Ruff of Lincoln, Erma Rae and Joe Miller of Lincoln, Velma and Bill Schafersman of Arlington, Elaine Montayne of Vancouver, Wash.; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; step-daughter-in-law, Tammy Mahrt of Knoxville, Iowa.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar and Carl Mauch; a grandson, James John Herbolsheimer; and step-son, Arnold Mahrt.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and to the Good Samaritan Center, both in Scribner.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
