AGED PIONEER DIES

MRS. EMMA HANSEN DIES AT SON’S HOME NEAR KENNARD

Mrs. Emma Hansen died at the home of her son, Albert, south of Kennard, last Thursday evening following an attack of heart disease. Although she had been in failing health for some time, the end came very suddenly. The deceased was born in Sheyland, Denmark, April 14, 1846, and came to America when she was about twenty years of age.

On February 9, 1869, she was united in marriage to Lars Hansen at Omaha and to this union three children were born. In the spring of 1875 the family moved to Washington county and located on a farm north of Washington where they lived up until the death of the husband in 1903, since which time the deceased made her home with her son. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen belonged to the early settlers of Washington county and endured the hardships so common to the early pioneers. The deceased was possessed of a sunny disposition and was highly thought of by all who knew her.

Funeral services were conducted from the son’s home last Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, the Rev. Knud Larsen of Kennard, officiating, after which interment was made in Prairie View cemetery. Special music was furnished for the occasion by the Misses Viola Hansen and Dagney Nielsen. Six relatives of the deceased acted as pallbearers.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a son, Albert of Kennard, another son having died in infancy, while a daughter died several years ago; a daughter-in-law, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Emma Hansen, 82, a resident of Washington County for more than half a century, died Friday morning at the home of her son, Albert Hansen, four miles south of Kennard.

Mrs. Hansen has made her home with her son for a number of years. She has been in failing health for some time, but her condition was not critical until just a few hours before her death.

She was born in Denmark April 14, 1846 and came to this county with her husband fifty-three years ago from Oconto, Wisconsin.

Her life on the farm south of Kennard has been one of usefulness and during all these long years of residence in this county she has made many warm friends who will miss her greatly.

She leaves one son, Albert to mourn her death, one daughter, Mrs. James Jensen passing on some years ago.
