Dierks, LaFern Anna Caroline (Nelson) #2 (source unknown—from FindaGrave memorial)

LaFern Anna Caroline (Nelson) Dierks was born on June 30, 1924 in Kennard, Nebraska to Fred and Mabel (Christensen) Nelson. She grew up on several farms in Washington County, attending various country schools before graduating from Bennington High School in 1942. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington.

LaFern's early years were spent helping on the farm and working small jobs in the area.

LaFern married Marvin Dierks on September 2, 1944 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington and they were blessed with 3 sons: Rick, Doug and Tom. LaFern and Marvin raised their sons on the family farm north of Bennington. After retirement, they moved to Fremont in 1980.

LaFern worked at the Offutt Building D Bomber Plant during World War II and later at Boys Town but first and foremost she was a farm wife. She was a member of the Bennington American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Arlington VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Mid American Dairy Association and the Bennington Women's Club where she held several offices. She tended a large garden and preserved everything that it produced especially wonderful jams and jellies. LaFern loved to cook and bake for her family. She enjoyed bowling, garage sales, and treasured the trips to Germany that she and Marvin were able to take. LaFern took great pride in her family and was always available to assist them.

LaFern was surrounded by numerous family members when passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Fremont Area Medical Center after a short illness at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 6 days.
