Rodney R. Main, 65, of Blair, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, in Blair.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in Shelby, Iowa.

Rodney Robert Main was born Aug. 30, 1938, in Hartford, S.D., to Lee and Dorothy (McKaughan) Main. He grew up on the farm near Hartford and graduated from Lyons High School in 1956. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford.

Mr. Main enlisted in the Army on Veteran’s Day in November 1959. He attended basic training at Fort Gordon, Ga., and completed Switchboard Operator and Repair School. While in the Army, he was stationed in Korea and in France. He received an honorable discharge in October 1962.

On June 22, 1963, he married Mary Hanson at Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill, S.D. The couple marked their 40th anniversary in 2003 with a trip to Canada.

Mr. Main loved the seasons, especially spring and summer. He enjoyed tilling, planting and harvesting his garden, which he shared with everyone. He enjoyed laughter and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and David Robinson of Shelby, Iowa; Dawn and James McGauley of Marlborough, Mass.; Deanna and Daniel Whyte of Avoca, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Rachelle Main of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Helen Main of Omaha, Ken and Kristi Main of Brookings, S.D., sister and brother-in-law, Mardell and Delmar Linge of Panama City, Fla., and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Evelyn and Marion.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
