Lola M. Makinson, 75

Blair native Lola M. Makinson, 75, a 25-year resident of Springville, Calif., died Thursday, March 26, 2009. A memorial service was held March 29 at her home.

Lola M. Hultberg was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Blair to Clifford and Ada Hultberg. She attended Blair Schools and graduated with the Class of 1951.

Her life had two distinct phases. She wed her first husband, Doyle R. Sprick, on Aug. 27, 1952, after he completed Marine Corps boot camp. As the wife of a career Marine, she had four children while her husband went from enlisted to OCS and flight school. During her husband’s third overseas tour as a pilot, in Vietnam during 1965, he became missing in action and never returned. As an MIA wife, she raised her four children in the El Toro area of southern California.

She met her current husband, Frank Makinson, during square dancing. The couple married in 1978. After finding the Springville area, they built a home in the late 1980s and lived there until her death.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter, Debra; sons, Doyle Jr. and Ken and their families, including four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard of Omaha, Hollis of Arizona, and John of Texas.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eric; brothers, Charles Clifford Jr. and Dale.
