ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES OVER

HEMMING PETERSEN DIED AT THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER AND FUNERAL WAS HELD FRIDAY

Hemming Petersen passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Shirley Petersen, near this city, Tuesday of last week, a little over three months after the death of his wife on August 10th last. He never really recovered from the shock her death caused him in his advanced years.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Rose Hill, Rev. C.C. Norlin, of Herman officiating. Burial was in the cemetery hard by the church where the body of his dear wife was laid not four months before. Their bodies being once more so close together, their spirits happy in a union so short a time broken.

Mr. Petersen was born in Moen, Denmark, February 22nd, 1846, and was married there to Sophia Nielsen November 6th, 1874. The following spring they came to this country and settled on a farm just east of the Rose Hill church and school house, where they lived for over 46 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary there in 1924.

Eight children were born to them, one of them, Kristina, Mrs. Rasmus Christensen passed away six years ago when she was 47 years of age, leaving five children. Peter X. lives at Lyons; Jens L. on a farm just west of Blair; Mrs. Mary A. Anderson, of Blair; Lars P. lives on a part of the old farm near Rose Hill; Anna, Mrs. George Broderson, in Fremont; Katie, Mrs. Albert Petersen near Kennard; and Carrie, Mrs. Shirley Petersen near Spiker. He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one brother, Rasmus Petersen, who lives near Rose Hill, who is now 78 years of age, the last of a family of eight children.

In his youth Mr. Petersen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the town of his birth, which faith was his through life and in death. He was a man of unusual patience and kindliness of spirit, always ready to show his appreciation of any kindness shown him and his. This trait was manifest to the very evening of his life when he was suffering from weakness under the weight of years and infirmity.

Mr. Petersen was a kind and loving husband, father and friend, honest in all his dealings with his fellows and faithful in his friendships. All of which spells good citizenship and he was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.

The bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of their many friends, along with the realization of his great happiness with the sweetheart of his youth and companion throughout a long life and the memory of a worthy life well lived.
