Dale R. Schutt, 78

Dale R. Schutt, 78, of Herman, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at Crowell Home in Blair.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Herman Cemetery.

Dale R. Schutt was born July 28, 1934, to Walter and Mildred Schutt at Rising City, one of six children.

At age 16, he moved to Tekamah with his family. He worked for several local farmers.

He married Shirley McDonald in 1952. To this union two sons were born, Gary and Larry.

The couple moved to Herman in 1956. In 1959, he became employee/manager of the former Holmquist Grain and Lumber in Herman and worked there 39 years.

He was a charter member of the Herman Community Club and Herman Boosters. He served with the Herman Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years, and won on their competitive water fighting team.

At the end of his employment, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and continued to battle that disease at home and at Crowell Memorial Home until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; brothers, Stanley and Richard; his youngest son, Larry and family; granddaughter, Shiloh; and great-grandson Rhyker; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Kenneth; sister, Edith; and oldest son, Gary.
