Donald F. Haight, 95

Donald F. Haight, 95, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Longview Home in Missouri Valley.

Services were Friday, June 21, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery near Missouri Valley.

Donald F. Haight was born March 4, 1918, to Fred E. and Ruby C. (Swearingen) Haight at their family home in Old Town.

He attended country school until the eighth grade, and then attended Missouri Valley High School, where he graduated in 1937.

On March 31, 1947, he married Dorothy Irene Christo in Glenwood, Iowa. To this union were born a son, Wayne, and three daughters, Rita, Lorna and Wanda.

The family lived on a farm until they moved to Missouri Valley in 1965.

He farmed and raised black Angus cattle for 45 years on the family farm outside of Missouri Valley. He worked at the Kelly Ryan Equipment Company in Blair from 1949 to 1951 and then worked at the Eaton Metal Corporation in Omaha from 1967 until he retired in 1981.

He loved the outdoors and wildlife. He loved having the grandchildren help him on the farm and was always willing to give them a tractor ride.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Haight of Missouri Valley; children, Wanda Gibson and husband, Roger, of Blair, Lorna Banka and fiancé, Dave Stuckey, of Omaha, and Wayne Haight and wife, Laurie, of Bellflower, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Loken of Eugene, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Tuttle; and brother-in-law, Newt Loken.
