SERVICES HELD FOR BLAIR BUSINESSMAN

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 18, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, South Dakota, for Emerson “Bud” Seager, 58, who died March 14 in Blair.

Rev. Tom Dunham conducted the services. Burial was in the Philip Masonic Cemetery following Military ties and honors.

Bud Seager was born December 19, 1923 at Cody, Nebraska to George and Alice Seager. He grew up at Cody and Gordon, Nebraska, and graduated from high school at Gordon.

On Septembner 18, 1943, he married Rose Marie Beutler at Gordon where they lived until moving to Philip in 1947. He owned and operated a Gambles Store in Philip until 1966 when it was destroyed by fire. He maintained an office for two years after the first to take care of the customers he had served.

In 1968, Seager went to work for the National Guard Unit in Philip. He worked there until 1975, where he was associated with Shuster’s Jack and Jill Grocery Store until his death.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific . He was in the first unit of the National Guard in Philip, serving as Administrative Staff Assistant from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of the Philip Volunteer Fire Department, the Philip Lighted Field Association, a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a former city council member.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1970; two infant daughters; his father; and one sister.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Nancy) Ekstrum of Philip; Mrs. Willard (Billy Kay) Goodman of New Hope, Minnesota; Mrs. Mike (Holly) Kuchenbecker of Philip; and Billy Jean Seager of Las Vegas, Nevada; and three sons, Patrick, Mike and Casey, all of Philip. His mother, Alice Marie Walker of Ft. Colllins, Colorado; twelve grandchildren; and two sisters, Harvene Botts of Houston, Texas; and Maxine Stamer of Los Angeles, California, also survive him.

JoAnne Stilwell was organist. Jerry Rhodes was soloist.

A memorial has been established.

Woodall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
