Lester George Thunn, 92, of Fort Calhoun, died Monday, June 24, 2013, in Fort Calhoun.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Lester George Thunn was born May 16, 1921, in Washington County to George and Marie (Mordhorst) Thunn.

He married Pearl Mittelstaedt on April 14, 1953.

The Thunn farm has been in the family since 1915. At the age of 15, Mr. Thunn took over working on the family farm after his father died at the early age of 53. He grew wheat, oats, hay, corn and soybeans during his lifetime. He also raised pigs and black Angus cattle.

He will be most remembered as a very good family man, a gentle man who always treated everyone with respect and a farmer at heart.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl of Fort Calhoun; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Mary Thunn of Fort Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Jim Clewley of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Georgia and Gene Fowler of Roseburg, Ore., Linda Thunn and husband John Fredrickson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Barbara and Jeff Lowenberg of Cypress, Texas; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be directed to Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Omaha or the Washington County Museum.
