LaVerne W. Marquardt, 82

LaVerne W. Marquardt, 82, of Hooper died Oct. 7, 2004, at the Hooper Care Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 11, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. Interment was in the Hooper Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 18.

LaVerne W. Marquardt was born Nov. 2, 1921, on the family farm near Hooper to Elberth and Elsie (Niebaum) Marquardt. He grew up in the Hooper area and moved to Fremont in 1928. In 1931, he and his family moved back to the Hooper/Telbasta area. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1939.

Mr. Marquardt entered the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served as an airplane mechanic during World War II in the Burma and India theaters, until returning to Hooper in 1946. He farmed in the area until moving to the Hooper Care Center in 2002.

He took an active role in his community, playing in both the Scribner and North Bend community bands. He served on the Dodge County Board of Supervisors and was a 35-year member of the Rural Fire Board. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 18 in Hooper, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 7419 in Nickerson.

He married Dorothy Woodman on Dec. 22, 1963 in Fremont. She preceded him in death in 1997.

Mr. Marquardt is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Quentin and Ramona Marquardt of Hooper, and Myron and Fumiko Marquardt of Silver Springs, Md., and three nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
