Hazel Irene Marr Died At Blair Hospital Aug. 26

After several months of illness, Hazel Irene Marr died at Blair Memorial Hospital on Thursday, August 26th. Mrs. Marr was 87 years old.

She was born June 29, 1889 in the Arizona community north west of Herman. She grew up in that neighborhood and attended Burt County School District No. 18 which was known as “Goosepasture”.

She was married to Clifford E. Marr December 25, 1906 at the Arizona Church parsonage. The couple engaged in farming. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1956 and spent their entire life in Burt County.

Mrs. Marr was one of the organizers of the “Happy Though Extension Club” and late in 1975 she was recognized as a 50-year member of the club.

In 1957 she was presented a certificate of achievement in Leadership in Rural Homemaking, the recognition coming from the Omaha Chamber of Commerce Agriculture committee. In 1962 she again received a certificate for outstanding contribution to the development of her home and community. She belonged to the Friendship Circle in her later years.

She was a lifelong member of the Tekamah United Methodist Church and she received her “50 year Member Pin” in 1967.

For the past year and a half she has been a resident of the Crowell Memorial Home at Blair.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, and by all of her four brothers and four sisters, two grandchildren, Larry Rager and Gene Marr and one great-grandchild, Daniel McKinnis.

Survivors include her six children, Mrs. Ruth McKinnis of Blair, Clarence of Ft. Calhoun and Ervin, Orville, Merle and Mrs. Lecoq (Iva) Rager of Tekamah. There are 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Tekamah Methodist Church, Kenneth Marr delivered the sermon. Burial was made in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Riley Marr, Mark Nielsen, Tony Marr, Ward Marr, Clair McKinnis and Randy Rager.
