#1-Pilot 1 Feb 1922

Mrs. Marsh, wife of Rev. A. E. Marsh, died at the Episcopal rectory at 1 o’clock this afternoon of broncho-pneumonia, having been sick only since last Friday. A slight paralytic stroke last August left her heart weak and it was too frail to carry her through the attack. A special nurse was secured from Omaha Monday and she had the best care possible, but it was all to no avail, she has now passed on to be with her only son, Rev. Arthur II Marsh, whose death occurred in France October 5th, 1918, while serving as chaplain in the World War. Bishop Shayler is expected up from Omaha tomorrow and will take charge of the funeral arrangements. He will likely conduct the funeral from the church Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the Blair cemetery this having been her home for over twenty years.

Marie Louise Marmion was born in Kilmeen county, Cork, Ireland, March 19, 1855, and was, therefore, almost 67 years of age. She was of English parentage, her father serving as rector of a church at that place at the time of her birth. The family later removed to Guernsey where they were living when she was married to Rev. A. E. Marsh in London, St. James church, July 26, 1892. Mr. Marsh had been in this country for two years and returned to claim his bride and they came directly to the States, locating first at Calliope, Ia.

Mr. Marsh was ordained and took his first parish at Decatur, Neb., in 1887, serving the church for two years. He went to Central City in 1889 and came here in 1901. The death of her son, Arthur, who had won an Oxford scholarship and was so well prepared to live and serve his fellows, was a very great shock to her and she had never been quite the same person since. She is survived by her husband, two grandsons, Arthur Henry and Richard Marmion Marsh and their mother, Mrs. Nancy Marsh, of Washington, D. C. The bereaved husband has the sincere sympathy of many friends.

WIFE OF REV. MARSH DIES OF BRONCHIAL PNEUMONIA

Mrs. Marie Louise Marsh, wife of Rev. A. E. Marsh of this city, passed away shortly after noon Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1922, as the result of bronchial pneumonia, from which she had suffered for only a few days. Some time last fall Mrs. Marsh had a light paralytic stroke which left her heart in a weakened condition and not able to withstand the ravages of this illness.

Mrs. Marsh had been a resident of Blair for twenty one years, her husband coming here as rector of St. Mary’s church in 1901, and was a woman greatly loved by all who knew her. She was of valuable assistance to her husband in his clerical work, and will be missed and mourned by every member of the parish, as well as by a host of friends regardless of church affiliation. Mrs. Marsh was also a woman of strong mental and Christian character. She was the mother of one child, a son, Arthur H., who followed in the footsteps of his father and adopted the ministry for his life work, and served as chaplain in the late war. When word reached the mother of the death of her son on the battlefield of France October 5, 1918, she bravely bore her sorrows as did also the father, feeling they need not murmur for Arthur was safe with the Lord whom he, and they, faithfully served. Her calm acquiescence to the Master’s will was noted and admired by all her friends.

Marie Louise Marimion was born in Killmeen, County Cork, Ireland March 19, 1855, her father, an English rector, having at that time charge of a church in that place. She was married to Arthur E. Marsh in St. James church, London July 26 1882. When Mr. Marsh returned to America with his bride they located at Calliope, Iowa, and he was shortly afterwards ordained in the Episcopal church. His first charge was at Decatur, Neb., going from there to Central City and coming to Blair in 1901. Mrs. Marsh is survived by her devoted husband and two little grandsons, Arthur Henry and Richard Marimion, who are with their mother, widow of the late Rev. Arthur H. Marsh, at Washington D.C., to whom the sympathy of the entire community is extended.

Funeral services will be held at the church of which she was a faithful attendant Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Bishop Shayler conducting the service.
