Truman H. Marsh, 69, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Truman Hugh Marsh was born Oct. 22, 1938, in Tekamah to Thomas and Pearl (Webster) Marsh. He attended school in Tekamah through the 11th grade.

In 1957, he joined the U. S. Army and served two years in Germany. He was recalled to active duty in 1961 and served another year at Fort Riley, Kan., before being honorably discharged.

Mr. Marsh was a hard worker all his life. He worked many jobs as a small child and was employed at Save More Market during high school. He worked on the Missouri River as a deckhand for Kiewet & Co., and then worked as a tugboat operator for 25 years. He then worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 16 years. He retired due to bad health.

He was an avid hunter. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Nathaniel, as well as cooking and baking. He liked to share the soups, pies, cookies and cakes he made with others. He would surprise friends and relatives with the treats and was known to surprise others with flowers form the local florist.

He is survived by his children, Chad and Linda Marsh, both of Tekamah; grandson, Nathaniel Robinson of Tekamah; ex-wife, Mary West of Herman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim and Tina West of Pearland, Texas, and Larry and Wanda West of Saratoga, Calif.; nieces, Jo West of Herman, Lou Buck of Fremont, and Angela (West) Brown of California; nephews and spouses, Jesse and Sherri Robinson of Elk City, Kris and Tammy Robinson of Blair, Kevin and Barb Robinson of Washington, Tom and Stacy West of California, Bill and Nancy West and James West, all of Texas; aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and a sister, Marie Janssen.

Memorials are suggested to the Tekamah Fire and Rescue or to the family.

Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah is in charge of arrangements.
