Mrs. Julia Paasch

Mrs. Julia Paasch died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Belknap, in this city, on last Sunday morning at 1:40 o’clock after an illness of nearly a year. Deceased was a native of Germany, born Aug. 4th, 1852, and came with her parents to America, when a child, settling in eastern Iowa, where she remained until married to Paul Peterson, come with her husband to this county and locating on a farm near the Douglas county line. To this marriage 12 children were born, Mrs. W. H. Belknap, of this city, Hulda, and Pauline, living in Omaha, Mrs. Oscar Kohl, of Clinton, Iowa, Maggie, Carrie, Katie Herman, and Peter living in this county, and Sophia, of Valdez, Alaska, all except Sophia being present at the funeral. Paul Peterson, the husband, died twenty odd years ago and deceased was subsequently married to Claus Paasch and to them one son, Arthur, now living in Clinton, Iowa, was born. Three brothers and two sisters are living, one sister, Mrs. T. C. Carstensen, coming from her home at Walnut, Iowa, to attend the funeral.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday p.m. at the Belknap home, Rev. C. M. Foreman, pastor of the Baptist church officiating and the remains were buried by the side of her first husband in the German cemetery at the German hall in Richland township, in the neighborhood where they lived so long and had so many friends, many of whom have preceded her to that last resting place and will be her neighbors in repose.

Mrs. W. H. Belknap’s mother died at the Belknap home in this city at 1:40 Sunday morning, of cancer, from which she had suffered since last June. The funeral was held at the house at 11 o’clock yesterday, Rev. C. M. Foreman officiating, and the body taken to the German cemetery in Richland township for burial by the side of her husband, Paul Petersen, whose death occurred 24 years ago. Julia Parmann was born in Germany Aug. 4th, 1852, and was therefore 63 at her last birthday. She came to this country with her parents when but a little girl and settled in Iowa. She was married there to Paul Petersen and twelve children were born to them, all of whom are living. Mrs. Belknap, of this city, Pauline and Hulda, of Omaha, Sophia, of Valdez, Mrs. Oscar Kohl, of Clinton, Iowa, Peter, Herman, Carrie, Maggie and Katie of this county. One son, by a second marriage, Arthur Paasch, also lives at Clinton, Ia. She also leaves two sisters and three brothers. One sister, Mrs. T. C. Carstensen, of Walnut, Ia., was here to attend the funeral.

DEATH CLAIMS MOTHER OF MRS. W.H. BELKNAP

Mrs. W.H. Belknap's mother died at the Belknap home in this city at 1:30 a.m., Sunday, from the effects of cancer, from which she had been a sufferer since last June. The funeral was held from the Belknap residence on Tuesday, where Rev. C.M. Forman conducted the services. The remains were interred in the German cemetery in Richland township, by the side of her husband, the late Peter Peterson, who had preceded her to the Valley of the Shadows twenty-six years ago.

Julia Putman was born in Germany fifty-two years ago and came to this country when a young girl and settled in Iowa, where she was married. The fruits of this union, twelve children, are all alive. Mrs. W.H. Belknap of Blair, Pauline and Hulda of Omaha, Sophie of Valden, Alaska, Mrs. Oscar Kohl of Clinton, Iowa, Peter, Herman, Carrie, Maggie and Katie, all children of a second marriage reside in Washington county. One son, Arthur Paasch, resides in Clinton, Iowa. The deceased leaves three brothers and one sister, Mrs. T.C. Carstensen of Walnut, Iowa, who was in attendance at the funeral of her loving sister.
