JACOB “JAKE” RAND, 93

Jacob Rand, 93, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 23, at First Presbyterian Church in Missouri Valley, with Pastor Steve Pike officiating. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Jacob “Jake” Rand was born Dec. 12, 1908, in Sac County, Iowa, to John and Stinetta (Spier) Rand. He farmed in the Burt and Harrison County areas for many years.

He married Dorothy Ochampaugh in 1950; she preceded him in death in 1990.

After building a house in Blair, he moved from the farms in 1964.

Mr. Rand married Gwen Mummert at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair; she preceded him in death in 1994.

Mr. Rand was involved with the Centatar Township School Board until they disbanded; was a Modale Co-op trustee, member of the First Missouri Valley Community Hospital Board, Iowa Farm Bureau director, California Junction elder of the Presbyterian Church, as well as better community scholarships for the Missouri Valley Aquatic Center, Rand Community Center in Missouri Valley, Museum Foundation, Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Crowell Memorial Home, and YMCA, all in Blair.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Mary A. Connealy of Missouri Valley, Robert Chase and Helen J. Tobin, both of Tekamah, Grant Chase of Omaha, Anelle Bruno and Charles Chase, both of Phoenix, Ariz., niece and spouse, Mary and Roger Wohlers of Omaha, nephews, Roger Rand of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and John Robert Rand of Missouri Valley, many grand-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Katie, Shamka, Jennie, Wubbena, and brothers, John and Eilert.

Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley was in charge of arrangements.
