ENID BEATY RANKIN TO BE BURIED HERE ON FRIDAY

A prayer service will be held at Campbell Funeral Home on Friday, January 25, at 11 a.m. for Enid Beaty Rankin who died January 17, 1980, in Medford, Oregon, at the age of 89. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

The Rosary was said Tuesday, January 22, in Medford. A Requium Mass was held on Wednesday, January 23.

Enid Beaty was born April 2, 1890, to Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Beaty. She married Fred E. Rankin in Louisville, Kentucky, during World War I.

A graduate of Rockford College, Illinois, she taught high school women’s physical education and mathematics in Blair and at the University of Omaha. She also set up a recreation program in Omaha, was a public welfare caseworker during the Depression years, executive secretary of the Jackson County, Oregon, Red Cross during World War II, and served for seven years as executive director of the Jackson County Chapter, American Red Cross.

In 1957, she was appointed to the Oregon Council on Aging. She organized the Rogue Valley Council on Aging in 1958 and was a member of the executive board. She was chairman of the Senior Activity Center committee for Jackson County; served as panelist for the community services workshop at the Northwest Regional Conference on Aging in Portland, as program chairman for the Southern Oregon, Regional Conference on Aging in Medford, and was a member of the state program committee which planned the Oregon State Conference on Aging in Salem in preparation for the White House Conference on Aging.

A charter member of Medford Altrusa Club, she served as geriatrics chairman for District 12, was instrumental in setting up a program of financial grants to train older women to re-enter the labor market and was an international field representative of Altrusa. She served through the Southern Oregon Society of Artists, Jackson County Civic Music Association, Oregon Shakespearean Festival Association, the Altar Guild of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was named Medford Zonta Club Woman of the Year in 1962 and Medford Business and Professional Women’s Club “Beep” of the Year in 1964. In 1974, a senior citizens center was named the Enid Rankin Neighborhood Facility in her honor by the Medford City Council.

Her husband, parents and one brother, Mark Beaty, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Pat) Garrison, Bend, Oregon; three grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
