KRISTINA M. RANKIN, 84

Kristina M. Rankin, 84, of Blair, died Sunday, Jan. 18 2009, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, Jan. 22, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kristina Mae Bergstrom was born March 23, 1924, in Lander, Wyo., to Johannes William and Marguerite C. (Hauger) Bergstrom. Her father had immigrated to America from Sweden.

At age 6, she her parents moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, where they worked the rocky fields while living in a two-room log cabin. After five years, the family then settled in Valentine. She graduated from Valentine High School in 1942 and taught country school. During World War II, she attended and graduated from Clarkson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Returning to Valentine, she worked as a registered nurse at the Valentine Hospital and Doctor’s Clinic.

On Jan. 13, 1951, she married Robert Eugene Rankin in Valentine. Mrs. Rankin worked as an RN in Omaha, Valentine, Denver, Colo., Broken Bow and Farmington, Minn., before retiring and moving to Blair in 1985.

A strong Christian, she enjoyed her family, grandsons and great-grandchildren. She was a proud member of the Republican Party and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved her flower gardens and being outside with nature. Camping, fishing and gardening kept her busy during retirement.

Mrs. Rankin is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tim Fischer of Blair; grandsons and their wives, Jeremy Scott and Heather Fischer of Cary, N.C.; Jonathan Patrick and Amie Fischer of Norfolk; and Joshua Reid and Hayley Fischer of Fremont; great-grandchildren, Chloe Grace and Hayden Robert Fischer of Norfolk, and Mia Noelle Fischer of Fremont; sister-in-law and husband, Beverly and Robert Lonn of Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and a brother Johannes “Jack” William Bergstrom.

SERVICES 10:30 am Friday at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial Blair Cemetery. VISITATION will begin at 12 pm Thursday with a prayer service at 7 pm at the funeral home.
