ROBERT E. RANKIN, 81

Robert E. Rankin, 81, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at his home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Country Bible Church in Blair. Military graveside services will be held at the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Robert Eugene Rankin was born April 21, 1923, at Merriman to George and Ethel (Yokum) Rankin. He moved to Martin, S.D., with his parents during his adolescent years, and graduated from Martin High School.

He attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion prior to entering the Air Force during World War II.

On Jan. 13, 1951, he married Kristina Bergstrom at Valentine.

Mr. Rankin became affiliated with the Rural Electric Association in Valentine, and later moved to Broken Bow, where he was manager of the R.E.A. He later moved to Farmington, Minn., where he was general manager for the Dakota Electric Power District. He retired in Farmington, and moved to Blair in 1985, where he ran the H&R Block Company.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, and was an avid worker in the Republican Party. He enjoyed sharing his musical talent by giving of his time with residents of Good Shepherd Home and Crowell Memorial Home.

He is survived by his wife, Kristina; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tim Fischer of Blair; three grandsons and their spouses; one great-grandchild; sisters and brother-in-law, Gertrude Myers of Kearney; and Beverly and Robert Lonn of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lionel and Donald Rankin, and a sister, Vernetta Johnson.
