EVELYN MARIAM RASMUSSEN DIED DECEMBER 27, 1922

Evalyn Marian Rasmussen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rasmussen of Orum, died December 27, 1922, at the family home after an extended illness, aged 11 years, 5 months and 26 days.

Evelyn was a most lovable girl, a member of the Danish Lutheran church at Orum, having been baptized when less than two months old, and was reared in the Christian faith. She was a regular attendant at Sunday school in which she took a deep interest. Shortly before she passed away, she sang “My Church,” which was one of her favorite hymns.

The funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 1:00 p.m., the pastor, Rev. P.J. Reinertsen, using the Danish language on account of the grandmother, Mrs. Iversen, not understanding the English. At 2:00 o’clock, public services were held at the church which the pastor conducted in English, and was largely attended by sympathizing friends and neighbors who did all possible to alleviate the grief of the sorrowing relatives. By request, “My Church” was selected as one of the numbers sung at the obsequies in memory of the little girl’s last song on earth.

There survives to mourn the death of this dear little girl, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rasmussen; three sisters, Loretta, Leola and Marie, and one brother, Clifford; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Iversen and a large circle of friends.

Her life was sure and sweet and her few short years on earth will ever be a sacred memory to those whom she loved and left.

#2-4 Jan., 1923 - The Enterprise - Evelyn Marian Rasmussen

Evelyn Marian Rasmussen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Rasmussen of Orum, was born July 1, 1911 and on Sept. 24 of the same year received baptism.

She was always a bright, lovable child and won her way into the hearts of the people of the whole neighborhood. Especially was she loved by the people of the church and Sunday school in which she took much interest.

She was old for her years, having an understanding of things both spiritual and physical far beyond the ordinary child of her age. She was taken ill some months ago and at the last she realized that she must go and with the complacency of one of older years, prepared for death even selecting her favorite song to be sung at her funeral.

The end came Wednesday, Dec. 27. On Saturday, Dec. 30, the funeral was held, first a short service at the home and then at 2 p.m. a service at the Orum church.

The service, officiated over by Rev. Reinertsen, was largely attended, the whole countryside turning out to show their grief over her early death. Interment was made in the Orum cemetery.

Besides the grief-stricken parents, she leaves three sisters and a brother who will miss her greatly.
